Sunrise Children's Services
Sunrise Children’s Services has acquired Woodlawn Center in Danville, adding its therapeutic family foster care program to the nonprofit child welfare agency’s Southern Region Foster Care. The Woodlawn Center also houses two Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs), the Sanders Crisis and Stabilization Center and IMPACT Plus service coordination. These programs have expanded Sunrise’s continuum of care for the abused and neglected children of Kentucky.
Sunrise operates six foster care regions across Kentucky, providing extensive training and support for foster parents. The need for foster parents is great! Every day, there are about 7,200 abused and neglected children in out-of-home care in Kentucky. Sunrise provides a home for 400 hurting children on an average day through its 10 residential centers and statewide network of foster parents. Throughout last fiscal year, Southern Region Foster Care alone served 73 children.
Extensive training is given to new foster families before a child is placed in their homes. Once a child is placed in a foster home, Sunrise continues to be a strong presence in the family – making home visits and frequent telephone calls as well as arranging monthly respite care for foster parents so they can spend time alone or with their biological children. Additionally, foster parents receive a monthly financial reimbursement to help meet the physical and material needs of their foster child. Contributions from private donors help provide Christian camps, food, clothing, school supplies, Christmas gifts and other special activities.
Southern Region Foster Care assists foster parents in the following counties: Adair, Bell, Boyle, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Garrard, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, McCreary, Mercer, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Washington, Wayne and Whitley.
