| Formed by a group of leading businessmen in 1919, the Chamber in Danville/Boyle County fosters an environment conducive to successful enterprise by:
• sponsoring pro-business activities • monitoring local/state government action and how it may affect business • participating in community development initiatives
Much has changed since then. The Chamber has grown significantly, with a membership of more than 530 businesses and individuals. Of course, both men and women now take leadership roles.
Over the years, investment in the Chamber has “paid off” for the community. Several successful Chamber initiatives grew to become separate organizations or independent projects that now work cooperatively to strengthen the area’s economy, including:
• Heart of Danville, a Main Street Program that promotes an active downtown through business recruitment and seasonal events. • Danville/Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau, a tax-supported marketing entity that works to increase visitors for business, recreation, and relocation. • Perryville Enhancement Project, a nonprofit organization that works to acquire and preserve Civil War sites for their historical value and economic development potential. • Constitution Square Festival, a 3-day juried craft and traditional entertainment fair that brings visitors from throughout the region to celebrate our heritage. • Great American Brass Band Festival, a 3-day music festival that brings visitors from across the US to downtown Danville and the campus of Centre College, showcasing our community to more than 40,000 each year.
The Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce does not receive tax money for community promotion services. The Chamber is funded by annual membership investments and program events income.
